Using research, the still image and video David Gilbert has documented clear cut logging in Borneo, big oil in the Amazon and the expansion of industrial agribusiness in the last of the world’s rainforests. His work is motivated by a belief in the power of media rich information to highlight the dramatic change we are enacting on environments around the world.

David’s photography has appeared in the New York Times, The Times of London, The Guardian UK, Mother Jones, BBC’s Panorama, ABC, NBC and the feature film Crude, among others. He has produced reportage by the Discovery Channel, the Nation, Reuters and the Kyoto News Agency.

He is the recipient of grants from National Geographic, the Henry Luce Foundation and the Fulbright Foundation.

He has experience reporting and researching in:
Kirinci National Park, West Sumatra; Bukit Tigapuluh National Park, Jambi; The Kampar Peninsula, Riau; The Kerumutan Ecosystem, Riau; The Ulu Masen Ecosystem, Aceh Leuser Ecosystem, Aceh; The Borneo Borderlands; Yasuni National Park, Ecuador; and the Huaorani Territories, Lago Agrio and the Cofan Territories in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
